Everyone experiences difficulties, changes and challenges in their lives at some time. During these times, the emotions associated with difficult life events and changes can feel overwhelming, even unbearable. At times, we may even feel that we are the problem.

What is a Difficult Life Event?
The ability to cope with stressful situations varies from person to person and what one person finds difficult may not be a problem for someone else. Almost any event could become a difficult life event depending on your personal circumstances. There is not a definitive list-if a situation is stressful or upsetting for you personally, then that could define it as being a difficult life event. Such life events are unavoidable and can result in deep emotional changes regarding the ability to cope.
Some Examples of Difficult Life Events
There are however circumstances that can be predetermined to be “difficult life events” a few examples of these would be:
- A recent or historic life-altering event or situation
- Death of a family member or loved one
- Marriage, relationship issues
- Changes in circumstances
- Changes in employment
- Financially related
- Illness or injury
- Moving home
- Pregnancy
How Difficult Life Events Could Affect You
